I’m not sure what I expected from the final book in the Mortal Instruments series. Well, that’s not exactly true. I expected tears. After all, readers were promised that not everyone would survive and Cassandra Clare did hold true to that particular promise. In a nutshell, City of Heavenly Fire was everything I expected and then some.
You’ll have to forgive me for being vague, but I don’t want to leave any spoilers so therefore I can’t say a whole lot. There were some jaw dropping moments, some revelations that I expected and some that I didn’t. All of that combined had me on the edge of my seat for most of the the 700+ pages.
Yes, there were tears, but not when I expected them. Yes, there were sacrifices made, but not from who I expected to make them. The author sucker punched me more than once, but it was totally worth it.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that even though I’ve enjoyed reading the Mortal Instruments, Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices is my favorite series. I’m not sure why, but I usually attribute it to the fact that Clockwork Angel was the first book that I read in the combined series. For that reason alone, it should come as no surprise that City of Heavenly Fire doesn’t quite compare to the impact that Clockwork Princess had as far as series endings go, but it came close. I think one of the things I liked most about both series is the way they are interwoven. I honestly don’t think that you can get the full affect of either series if you don’t read them both.
The groundwork for the next installment in the Shadow Hunter world was laid in City of Heavenly Fire. The Dark Artifices will continue their story and I’m sure that characters from both the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices will be heard from again. Although some may disagree, ss far as this reader is concerned, that is not a bad thing at all. 😉

That’s exactly how I got hooked, but my daughter begged me to buy her Clockwork Angel. I think I’ve read that one 3 times at least. The Infernal Devices will always be my favorite, but I still enjoyed the Mortal Instruments. On a side note, my daughter still hasn’t read any of them. 😉
I am trying to win the last one cause I want to see how it ends. This will be one of those series (Like PC Cast) that I have to read the end cause darn it I read the rest. I am glad to hear it was a great wrap-up!
I honestly think that my favorite part about this one was the fact that characters that I loved from the Infernal Devices had cameos. It’s an end, but not really. I’m sure that we will be seeing some of the characters again. It does bring things to a satisfying close if you want it to…. but you know me – I always want more 😉 Good luck on winning it! I wasn’t taking any chances. I’ve read them all at least once and I own all the physical books. I couldn’t break up the set. ❤
