Thanks so much for hosting a spotlight of my new release— Daylight Again! It’s book 3 in the Hell or High Water series, and it’s the return of Prophet and Tommy. And Mal. And Cillian. And, as usual, some surprises. Hang on for another wild (and hot) ride!
Prophet Drews is a man on the edge, and he’s pulling Tom Boudreaux, his partner on the job and in real life, right over with him. When his old CO calls in a favor, Prophet asks Tom to join the off-the-grid rescue. But the mission raises all of Prophet’s old ghosts: CIA assassins, the terrorist Sadiq, and most importantly, John—traitor, former teammate, and Prophet’s first love.
To help bury those ghosts for good, Prophet and Tom gather the members of Prophet’s former SEAL team . . . and a spook named Cillian who’s been tailing Prophet for years. In the process, Prophet is forced to face his team’s shifting loyalties, ghosts who refuse to stay dead, and scariest of all, his own limitations.
With everyone’s lives in danger, Prophet and Tom must unravel a tangled knot of secrets, including their own. Prophet must decide how much to reveal to Tom, while Tom must decide how far he’s willing to go to help Prophet lay his ghosts to rest.
Creative Deeds Reads Review
So, I’m guessing you want more than that in a review? LOL!
This series just keeps getting more and more intense. As more characters are introduced (and re-introduced) and more layers are added and just as many mysteries crop up as are solved you almost need to have a score book to keep track. That’s not a complaint though. I like a book that keeps me on my toes and S.E. Jakes’ Hell or High Water series definitely does that.
It might sound crazy, but these tough alpha males are really tugging at my heart strings. Neither one of them are used to letting anyone in and they are both holding secrets close. Some of those secrets are held to protect themselves but most of them are to protect the other. If I had to choose between Prophet and Tom… I just couldn’t. My love for these guys is pretty equal. The series has progressed enough that they are beyond the games (to an extent) and their feelings for each other aren’t hidden from anyone. They’ve made their claim and now they just have to clear their way past… well, their past. Mostly Prophet’s past, but Tom is still dealing with stuff too.
I think what I like about this series most isn’t just Tom and Prophet, it’s the supporting characters that define them. Tom is the new guy, but he’s accepted (kinda) because Prophet trusts him. These guys don’t pull any punches and their loyalty to each other is what makes me want to get to know them better. There were a couple of characters that made a distinct impression on me in Daylight Again. One of them was Doc. I’ve always liked him but his interactions with Tom this time sealed the deal. Then there was Mal…. He was front and center in Dirty Deeds, but I felt even more connected to him in Daylight Again. Cillian I’m still not sure about, but that may be more about Tom than Mal. They jury’s still out on that one. Once he stops giving Tom death stares he might gain some ground… we shall see. 😉
A lot happened in Daylight Again, but there’s a lot more to come. The guys have taken care of some obstacles, but they may have created even more. Nothing is quite what it seems and even though this cliff hanger wasn’t as bad as Dirty Deeds‘ (ie: I wasn’t threatening to throw my eReader across the room and my jaw wasn’t dropping to the floor) I still want the next book sooner rather than later.
