Her Mad Hatter (Kingdom #1) by Marie Hall (Take 2!)

HerMadHatter2Alice is all grown up. Running the Mad Hatter’s Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe is a delicious job, until fate–and a fairy godmother with a weakness for bad boys–throws her a curveball. Now, Alice is the newest resident of Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter fuels her fantasies and thrills her body with his dark touch.

The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. Ever. But a determined fairy godmother has forced Alice into Wonderland–and his arms. Now, as desire and madness converge, the Hatter must decide if he will fight the fairy godmother’s mating–or fight for Alice.

Ever read a book once and know when you finished that you really need to read it again because you knew you were missing something? That’s exactly how I felt when I finished Her Mad Hatter the first time. This is (obviously) the second time I’ve read this book and I’m so glad that I picked it up again. I’m not exactly sure where my head was when I read this the first time, but evidently I had a whole new perspective the second time around.

The tag line for this series is ‘Bad Boys Need Love Too’ and it definitely fits. I love the concept of this series. A fairy god-mother whose main goal is to find the perfect mates for some pretty famous (or infamous) fairytale bad boys. What better place to start than with the Mad Hatter?

I loved the broken mess that the Hatter was and the love that Alice had for him before they even officially met. Alice was perfect, but not what you would expect Alice to be. I liked that. This grown-up version didn’t need to be a repeat of the fairytale, but there was enough familiarity in it to keep things interesting – and just a little twisted and fun.

HerMadHatterI also loved the images of Wonderland that Marie Hall brought to life in this short little visit. The magic and imagery was everything I would expect from the upside down world of Wonderland. Throwing in the Poe quotes just added to the madness. The characters were fun, there was plenty of heat and a fair amount of heart break. The only complaint that I had the second time around was that I didn’t want it to end. 😉 I can’t wait to see what happens with the rest of the bad boys. Gerard’s Beauty from Beauty and the Beast fame is up next.

    • That almost ALWAYS happens when I read a novella that I love. This one was only 129 pages. It looks like the rest of them are closer to 200. I’m not sure what frame of mind I was in when I read it the first time but I’m so glad I read it again. I’m hosting Marie Hall on the 18th for the All Hallows Eve Indies Blog Tour. Just read Death’s Lover and it was really good too. 😉
