Her Mad Hatter (Kingdom #1) by Marie Hall

HerMadHatterAlice is all grown up. Running the Mad Hatter’s Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe is a delicious job, until fate–and a fairy godmother with a weakness for bad boys–throws her a curveball. Now, Alice is the newest resident of Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter fuels her fantasies and thrills her body with his dark touch.

The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. Ever. But a determined fairy godmother has forced Alice into Wonderland–and his arms. Now, as desire and madness converge, the Hatter must decide if he will fight the fairy godmother’s mating–or fight for Alice.

I loved the concept of this one. The Hatter being truly Mad. A fairy god-mother with a bunch of fairy tale bad guys as her charges and generations of ‘Alices’ brought to Wonderland to bring the Hatter back from the brink.

Alice isn’t the Alice that you would expect, at least not if you grew up watching Disney cartoons. Actually, she’s the polar opposite, which is fitting. She is also a young woman who spent her life loving everything Wonderland, especially the Hatter.

Hatter is about as broken as they come. He has gotten his hopes up before as Alice after Alice was brought to him. He’s basically given up and doesn’t want to have anything to do with any more of them, especially when this new Alice looks so much like the one that came the closest to breaking him totally.

This book had humor, sweetness, a little bit of danger, some pretty impressive world building and enough hotness to make it interesting. The only complaint that I have is that I had trouble following it at times. It’s one of those reads that I’m going to have to go back and read again, just in case it was me. There were just times that I felt like readers were taken from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ too fast and some vital information was left out. Like I said, it may have been just me, so don’t let that sway you. There are more bad guys that need to find their mates and this first installment has peaked my interest enough to check the rest of them out.

I received Her Mad Hatter as a free download from Amazon on November 4, 2012.

    • It really was a great story and I loved the concept and the characters. It’s short so I’m sure I’ll read it again so I can try to pick up on anything I might have missed. I kind of wish it would have been longer. The world building was really cool too. Wonderland was the perfect place to start. 😉
