Avenger’s Angel by Heather Killough-Walden

When four female angels were created for the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael, a chaos spurned by jealousy erupted, and the archesses were secreted to Earth. The four favored archangels followed, prompting a search that has last millennia. But for Uriel, the former Archangel of vengeance, the search ends the moment he lays eyes on Eleanor Granger, his one true arches. Can he protect her from the danger lying in wait for her-and win her heart?

Avenger’s Angel is the first book in Heather Killough-Walden’s The Lost Angel Series. I first discovered Heather when I started reading her Big Bad Wolf Series. I was disappointed when that series came to an end. I’ll really miss the wolves and their mates, but I’m thinking that Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael will be a great distraction.

The premise behind this series is intriguing. Four strong determined angels who came to earth to find their destined mates. Four strong women who know that they are special, but have no idea what their destiny is. Therefore, the angels not only have to find their mates, but then they have to convince them of their destiny. Throw in the mix some other dangerous, powerful beings who are determined to get to the mates before the angels do and you have the makings of a great story.

Even though Avenger’s Angel is Uriel and Eleanor’s story, a fair amount of time is spent giving readers background and introducing the other characters. There really is something for everyone in this one. There’s obviously a love story, some bad guys that are easy to really hate, mystery and action. There’s even vampires, who knew?

I can’t wait to see how the other angels find their mates. I’m pretty sure I already have a few favorites, but I’ll wait and see. One thing that I’ve always enjoyed about Heather’s character development is that the line between good and bad sometimes becomes a little blurry. Characters that you are first introduced to and are sure that you are supposed to hate, don’t always stay that way. There’s always that little bit of good that comes shining through that is totally unexpected. I’m not sure if that’s what’s in store for any of the characters in Avenger’s Angel, but I’m not willing to totally write any of them off during the first book.

If you’d like to get a taste of Heather Killough-Walden’s writing style, she wrote a prequel to The Lost Angel Series, titled Always Angel. It’s a nice quick read and gives you a little more background into her new series.
